US Army: Brigade Reconnaissance Troop XXI
v.1.0 March 17, 2002

N. Keith Loescher

The new design Divison XXI adds to each heavy brigade HQ a new recon unit, the Brigade Reconnaissance Troop (BRT). Each BRT consists of 3 platoons, 2 scout platoons and a HQ platoon. Each scout platoon currently is comprised of 6 HMMWV's (M1025) each with a 3 man crew, armed with 3 each MK-19 (or M240B) and M2 .50 caliber machine guns. Reference: Pentagon/1022.

The units listed in the table below are for four of the U.S. Army heavy divisions; I do not have data yet on 1st Cavalry Division, or 2nd Infantry Division BRTs.
